The permission switches actually do something now.

  • Nine of the switches now genuinely control what they say: granting and revoking premium, managing servers and subscriptions, seeing revenue, opening the admin panel, viewing every server, and editing the permissions page itself. Before this, all of them were stored and none were ever checked.
  • You keep full access no matter what you toggle. As the owner you are the only person who can hand out permissions in the first place, so being able to lock yourself out with your own switch would be a trap.
  • Seven switches have been removed rather than left lying. Opening the dashboard, switching servers, and reading or saving a server's settings were never decided here — they come from what Discord already says a person can do in that server. Banning users, viewing system logs and bot-wide settings had no feature behind them at all. All seven did nothing in either position.

Added someone? You'll see who they are.

  • Adding someone by their Discord ID put a row on screen labelled "User" with a placeholder avatar. The name was saved correctly — the page just was not told what it was, so it guessed, and only a reload showed the real person. It now names them straight away.
  • A slow lookup used to stick. If Discord took more than five seconds to answer, that person stayed "Unknown" for the next ten minutes and reloading could not shake it loose. Only successful lookups are remembered now, so a hiccup costs one retry rather than ten minutes.

The AI got about four times more room.

  • Every single message, no matter what it was, carried a 2,200-word description of all 27 things the bot knows how to do — 96% of the budget, spent to answer "do you have conversational awareness?". That description is now attached only when a message actually looks like it needs it.
  • In practice that takes ordinary conversation from about three messages a minute to eleven, and it costs nothing: this is the free tier working properly rather than a bigger plan.
  • Asking for something still sends the tools for that job and nothing else — a weather question carries the weather tool, a music request carries the music ones. When a request is too vague to place, it sends everything, because the bot telling you it can't do something it can is a worse outcome than a few spare words.

1 — Is it free?

Yes, genuinely — reminders, voice channels, custom apps, fun commands, the whole dashboard. You only pay if you want the AI or the heavy moderation tools, and that money keeps the servers on.

2 — Why build another bot?

I wanted a bot that felt friendly, stayed out of the way, and didn't ask for a subscription for the basics. So I built the one I wanted on my own server, and now you can use it too.

3 — Do I need to code?

Nope. If you can flip a toggle, you can run BestieBot. Everything happens in the dashboard or right in Discord — no config files, nothing to deploy.

4 — What about my data?

Honestly, I don't want it. BestieBot keeps the minimum it needs to do its job — it doesn't read your messages, log your chats, or sell anything to anyone. What happens in your server stays in your server.

5 — Can I remove it?

Any time, no ceremony. Kick the bot and it's gone — no card on file, no trial timer, nothing to cancel. No hard feelings.
